About Steven
Legislator Steven Flotteron has been a dedicated voice for Suffolk County. Elected in November 2017 to the 11th Legislative District, he brings knowledge from his 35 years in insurance and investments and 18 years in local government to the table.
Since moving to Suffolk County in 1995 with his wife, Ellen, Steven has been an active contributor. He's taken leadership roles in the Bay Shore Summit Council and the Tri-Hamlet Alliance, addressing local challenges like absentee landlords and illegal housing.
His work has consistently focused on Suffolk County's financial stability, policing and public safety, enhancing the Waste Water Management Program, and supporting the community's well-being. Steven has been behind significant legislative initiatives, such as the "Reduce County Spending" Task Force and key improvements to Fire Island’s sewage system. He also values the cultural heritage of Suffolk, participating in events that celebrate the county's diverse backgrounds and remembering important moments like 9/11.
In 2005, Steven served as Councilman for the Town of Islip for 12 years, spearheading projects like the Bay Shore Marina and Brookwood Hall Restoration without added tax burdens. His dedicated work has been recognized with awards like the Central Islip Distinguished Citizen and Vision Long Island Awards.
Steven says, "I'm here to serve with integrity. Every day, my goal is to make life better for those in the 11th Legislative District. Through teamwork and good management, I aim to maintain the community's trust and provide the best services possible."
